National Instruments: Supporting Deterministic Traffic with Next Generation Ethernet

November 09, 2016 // By Catherine Bacon

This article looks at an industrial controllers that supports deterministic traffic using the new IEEE 802.1 time-sensitive networking (TSN) standards and considers how TSN implementation enables networked synchronization at accuracy better than 100ns. Intel processors and Ethernet controllers are used in the implementation which delivers the synchronization and low latency required for industrial applications such as motion control and condition monitoring. The white paper concludes with details of an industry-supported test bed for demonstrating the advantages of TSN-based devices.
