Small Cells Call for Scalable Architecture

The emergence of “small cells” is one way operators are optimizing their network architecture and facing the rapidly growing demand for coverage and capacity. This paper analyzes the requirements relating to this emergence and identifies paths for system optimization. Particularly, it demonstrates how the baseband processing features and the RF transmitter architecture should be considered together to achieve the optimum cost and performance targets.
