The event will address topics such as the latest battery technologies and chemicals, reliability and lifetime of batteries, charger technologies, regulations and standards, United Nations transportation regulations for lithium batteries, battery test equipment, safety of large rechargeable batteries, protection circuits, battery drive systems and power management for electric and hybrid vehicles, fuel cells and a lot more.

Sven Bauer, founder of the batteryuniversity.eu, said: “The trend toward maximum possible mobility and environmentally friendly energy supplies has given the topic of battery technologies a completely new significance in recent years. Our forum offers attendees the otherwise only rarely found opportunity, with comparatively little expenditure of time, to gather information about all key trends and new developments in direct dialog with specialists of the participating companies”.

Seminars, which take place in parallel to the expert forum of the two-day conference, are also offered: Grundlagenschulung "Akkutechnologien" (Basic training "battery technologies" – general fundamentals, principles and construction of various lithium-ion batteries and charging technology) and Basiswissen "Zellchemien" (Basic knowledge "cell chemistries" – construction and functional principles of various battery technologies, regulations and standards for battery packs, certification according to UN, IEC, EN and UL standards, United Nations transportation regulations and tests, effects on the housing design and hazardous materials analysis according to RoHS and REACH) as well as Seminar "Normen und Gesetze" (Seminar "standards and regulations" – a detailed look into the regulations for batteries that are valid in Europe regarding safety, environment and health).

During the two days, there is also the opportunity to gain some practical experience. For example, a four hour seminar is dedicated to the development of power-saving systems with Microchip’s nanoWatt XLP microcontrollers. In exercises on laptops, attendees learn more about system design techniques for a power-saving external circuit, diverse power-saving modes of on-chip peripherals, various power profiles and dynamic clock frequency control.

In the "Do-it-yourself" battery workshop, attendees are offered the opportunity to equip their old personal battery pack with new batteries under professional supervision.

The main language of the conference is German. Only a few presentations will be held in English.

Participating companies signed up for the event include: A123Systems, BMZ GmbH, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sonnenenergie, Digatron Industrie-Elektronik GmbH, Fraunhofer Institut Integrierte Schaltungen IIS, Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC, FSM Elektronik GmbH, KMS Automation GmbH, Leclanché SA, Linear Technology, Maxell Deutschland GmbH, Maxwell Technologies GmbH, Microchip Technology GmbH, Panasonic Electronic Devices GmbH, Panasonic Industrial Europe GmbH, RRC power solutions GmbH, Saft Batterien GmbH, Samsung SDI, SFC Energy AG, Sony Deutschland GmbH, Texas Instruments, TEXSYS GmbH, Toshiba Corporation, TÜV Rheinland LGA Products GmbH, Tyco Electronics Raychem GmbH, Umicore AG & Co. KG, VDE Prüf- und Zertifizierungsinstitut GmbH and ZVEI Fachverband Batterien.
