AM/FM antenna integrated into rear view mirror

Hirschmann Car Communication has developed a car radio antenna that can be integrated into the rear view mirror and thus become invisible. The passive film antenna enables AM and FM reception in motorhomes and buses equipped with the rear view mirrors from Vision Systems. The design is a project development for the French automotive supplier.

Vision Systems equips vehicles from Pilote, LMC, Volkner and Morelo with the antenna system. Hirschmann provides the entire antenna system including connectors and coaxial cable. "Vision Systems was looking for an integrated amplifierless antenna system that requires very little space and at the same time offers exceptional reception quality", said Hischmann Car Communication key account manager Pierre Rouveyre.

The solution has been custom designed and tested within four months. After the system has been accepted by Vision Systems, Hirschmann builds and delivers 4000 units per year. In the foreseeable future, projects with integrated GPS, GSM and WiFi antennas could become an interesting trend, said Rouveyre. For upmarket motorhomes also antennas with integrated RF amplifiers also would be feasible.
