Avago Technologies has added three highly integrated, high-speed infrared components to its product line. The company is a leading supplier of innovative semiconductor solutions for advanced communications, industrial and commercial applications. A next-generation, large scale integration FIR (Fast Infrared)/VFIR (Very Fast Infrared) controller in a TFBGA package, the ASDL-7021 complements Avago's broad portfolio of infrared IrDA® transceivers and IrSimple protocol software to provide design engineers with a comprehensive solution for high-speed wireless connectivity. Avago's ASDL-7021 supports high-speed infrared (IrDA) transfer speeds, including SIR (115.2 Kbps), MIR (1.152 Mbps), FIR (4 Mbps) and VFIR (16 Mbps).

As a single chip solution that integrates all necessary hardware to implement IrDA, the ASDL-7021 also includes an on-chip buffer memory and direct memory access (DMA) that enables it to access peripheral IO and memory from its system bus. Encoding and decoding IR signals, the ASDL-7021 serves as an interface to a host microcontroller using an 8-bit memory mapped interface. The ASDL-7021 measures 1.2 mm x 4 mm x 4 mm and is available in a 48-pin, TFBGA package.

Avago also announced two miniaturized infrared transceivers, the ASDL-3212 and ASDL-3023. Supporting speeds of up to 4 Mbps, the ultra-slim ASDL-3023 is a high-performance FIR transceiver capable of transmitting remote control signals over 8 meters and has an exclusive power saving feature that allows design engineers to achieve superior power consumption with no compromise in performance. The ASDL-3212 is a small form factor MIR transceiver transferring data at 1.152 Mbps which offers smart IOVCC input for a flexible, low-voltage range logic interface and extended link distance capability. It is developed in a 1.64 mm x 2.73 mm x 7 mm, ChipLED, lead-free surface mount package.

The market for infrared technologies continues to grow as more handheld devices, such as mobile handsets, PDAs and industrial handheld terminals, require a variety of wireless connectivity options. Higher speed IrDA transceivers and IrSimple protocols provide mobile devices with the fastest data transfer time, lower power consumption and higher security features at a much lower design cost.

Availability
All three products are available now through Avago's direct sales channel and worldwide distribution partners.

READER OFFER

This month Keithley Instruments is giving away two of its Model 2200 power supplies, worth 735 Euros each, for EETimes Europe's readers to win. The Model 2200-20-5: 20V, 5A, 100W on offer is one of five general-purpose programmable DC power supplies recently launched by the company, designed for source measurement instruments for component, module, and device characterization and test applications.

Part of the Series 2200 family, the unit’s voltage output accuracy is specified at 0.03% and its current output accuracy is 0.05%. The supply’s high output (1mV) and measurement (0.1mA) resolution makes it well-suited for characterizing low power circuits and devices in applications such as measuring idle mode and sleep mode currents to confirm devices can meet today’s ever-more-challenging goals for energy efficiency.

And the winners are:

In our previous reader offer, EPC was giving away ten of its EPC9002 development board kits, worth USD 95 each.
Lucky winners include  I. Blythe and C. Hardman from the UK, M. Casartelli and D. Cogliati from Italy, C. Cossio from Spain, W. Milarch from Germany, r. Milewicz from Poland, M. Prascak from Slovakia, A. Raidl from Austria and M. Taslakov from Bulgaria.
All should be receiving their kits soon. Let's wish them some interesting findings with their projects.
