“This is an exceptional opportunity to work directly with some of the most outstanding and committed engineering students at one Germany’s finest universities,” said Dr. Philip Lessner, Kemet Vice President, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Scientist. “Our sponsorship of the TUfast program reinforces Kemet’s commitment to electric/hybrid vehicle and green energy technologies and fostering the next generation of innovation in the automotive and alternative energy industries.”

The TUfast e-Technology Racing Team is comprised of approximately 30 highly motivated students from different areas of expertise studying at the Technical University of Munich. The goal of the team is to design and build the best possible Formula Student Electric race car every year.

The electric car competition began in 2010 to compliment the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International Formula SAE competition for combustion engines, founded in 1979. The race cars are developed in accordance with the strict rules set by Formula SAE, making it possible to successfully compete in Formula SAE races worldwide.

The TUfast Combustion Racing Team completed its hitherto most successful racing season in October 2010, winning “Best European Team” and placing seventh out of 475 teams worldwide. The team is now entering its eighth racing season beginning in August 2011.
