Low-power digital PMR processor adds new function images
June 14, 2012 // Paul Buckley
CML Microcircuits has added dPMR (Digital Private Mobile Radio) modes 1, 2 and 3 and ARIB STD-T102 to the CMX7131 and CMX7141 digital PMR processors.
The devices are now market-leading digital PMR processors supporting six systems and growing; dPMR TS 102 490, DCR ARIB-T98, NXDN, Analog PMR and now dPMR TS 102 658 and ARIB STD-T102.
The dPMR Mode 1, 2 and 3 Function Image implements a half-duplex 4FSK modem and a large proportion of the dPMR Air Interface, Data Link and Call Control layers. In conjunction with a suitable host and a limiter/discriminator-based RF transceiver, a compact, low-cost, low-power digital PMR radio conforming to ETSI's dPMR standard TS 102 658 can now be realised.
The 7131/7141FI-2.x Function Image implements a half-duplex 4FSK modem and a large proportion of the DCR Air Interface, Data Link and Call Control layers. In conjunction with a suitable host and a limiter/discriminator based RF transceiver, a compact, low cost, low power digital PMR radio conforming to ARIB’s T98 Digital Convenience Radio standard can be realised. Dual mode, analogue/digital PMR operation can also be achieved with the CMX7131/CMX7141.
The embedded functionality of the CMX7131/CMX7141 managing voice and data systems autonomously, including CMX6x8 Vocoder control, minimises host microcontroller interactions enabling the lowest operating power and therefore the longest battery life for a dPMR radio. Third party vocoders are also supported.
The CMX7131 is identical in functionality to the CMX7141 with the exception that two on-chip RF synthesisers have been added.
Availability
The devices are available now, have flexible power-saving modes and are available in both LQFP and VQFN packages.

The development platform for i.MX 6Quad from element14 (built to the Freescale SABRE Lite design) is an evaluation platform featuring the powerful i.MX 6Q, a multimedia application processor with Quad ARM Cortex-A9 cores at 1.2 GHz from Freescale Semiconductor.
This month, Freescale and element14 are giving away five such platforms, worth £128.06 each, for EETimes Europe's readers to win. The platform helps evaluate the rich set of peripherals and includes a 10/100/Gb Ethernet port, SATA-II, HDMI v1.4, LVDS, parallel RGB interface, touch screen interface, analog headphone/microphone, micro TF and SD card interface, USB, serial port, JTAG, camera interface, and input keys for Android.
And the winners are...
In our previous reader offer, Pico Technology was giving away one of its recently launched PicoScope 3207B, a 2-channel USB 3.0 oscilloscope worth 1451 Euros. Lucky winner Mr L. Sanchez-Gonzalez from Spain should be receiving his PicoScope 3207B soon. Let's wish them some interesting findings with his projects.
