Despite these somewhat disappointing figures, the association describes the overall sentiment in this industry as "good", given the increase of order entries of 1% higher than in the preceding quarter. The association however did not provide detailed figures nor a book-to-bill ratio. In any case, the demand for qualified workforce continues to rise; the companies organised in the AMA association plan to hire at average 12 additional engineers per 1000 existing jobs.

For the remainder of the year, an optimistic stance prevails, explained AMA general manager Thomas Simmons. The "industry 4.0" scheme, a term used in the manufacturing industry predominantly in Germany for industrial applications of the Internet of Things, is picking up momentum, Simmons observed. The changeover to higher degrees of automated networking in manufacturing landscapes will continue to drive the demand for intelligent sensors, Simmons added.
