Oscilloscope-analyser features smart persistence

March 01, 2007 | | 197700318
The MTX 3354 digital oscilloscope offers 4 channels, a bandwidth of 150 MHz and sampling rates of 100 GSamples/s in repetitive mode and 200 MSamples/s in single-shot mode.

Metrix is completing its MTX Compact range of digital oscilloscopes with the brand new MTX 3354, offering 4 channels, a bandwidth of 150 MHz and sampling rates of 100 GS/s in repetitive mode and 200 MS/s in single-shot mode. A new, innovative technology SPO (Smart Persistence Oscilloscope) acquisition and display is a revolutionary principle combining the advantages of analogue and digital oscilloscopes. Signal parameter acquisition is optimized. Using an FPGA circuit, parallel independent management of display and acquisition makes it possible to increase the acquisition rate to several tens of thousands per second. In this way, dead time during signal observation is reduced.

Equipped with a smart algorithm, SPO display uses all 44,000 points of the bitmap, offering intelligent display at last! With SPO, users can detect brief events, instabilities or unexpected anomalies. Furthermore, this makes it easy to interpret recurrent events and offers the possibility of displaying the "ageing" of rare phenomena (e.g. timing error on digital bus).

Advanced trigger modes

With the MTX 3354, as well as standard edge triggering, users also have access to a number
of advanced modes:
- Pulse, trigger on pulse width
- TV, trigger on TV signal
- Delay, edge trigger with delay
- Metering, edge trigger with event metering

All these new functionalities offer the possibility of studying signals in greater detail and capturing events, however brief they may be, for optimum accuracy. Other innovative functions are now available to everyone: scaling on all four channels with direct reading and the physical unit of the signal, a mathematical editor for editing four complex functions and up to four simultaneous curves on the screen, and "Winzoom", the most effective vertical and horizontal trace zoom function on the market. Suitable for use when moving around due to their compact format and built-in handle, the MTX Compact oscilloscopes can be used in five languages and include multilingual help documentation accessible at all times.

Cumulated functions help to rationalize your investment! The MTX Compact models offer real-time, multi-channel FFT analysis of the signal, integrated as a standard function by Metrix. 31-order harmonic analysis is also proposed as an option, as is the digital recorder. There are twenty different automatic real-time measurements available, including phase measurement. Professionals take note: these recording oscilloscopes also have another advantage, their genuinely affordable price!

User-friendly

Equipped with a wide multi-directional colour LCD screen, the MTX 3354 is part of the MTX Compact family. As with the rest of this family, the main functions and the functionality shortcuts are located on the front panel, with 21 direct-access keys and an encoder. The "Windows-like" ergonomics make the instrument easy to control with a mouse by means of menus or intuitive graphical elements. It can operate in advanced mode, using the hidden complex functions, or in normal mode. The standard version of the MTX 3354 offers all the main communication interfaces (RS232, Centronics, USB, Ethernet with HTML server). The Ethernet network interface with HTML server can be used to deal with the problems linked to distance in industry, as well as in the world of education, when the computer rooms and classrooms are far apart.

READER OFFER

This month Keithley Instruments is giving away two of its Model 2200 power supplies, worth 735 Euros each, for EETimes Europe's readers to win. The Model 2200-20-5: 20V, 5A, 100W on offer is one of five general-purpose programmable DC power supplies recently launched by the company, designed for source measurement instruments for component, module, and device characterization and test applications.

Part of the Series 2200 family, the unit’s voltage output accuracy is specified at 0.03% and its current output accuracy is 0.05%. The supply’s high output (1mV) and measurement (0.1mA) resolution makes it well-suited for characterizing low power circuits and devices in applications such as measuring idle mode and sleep mode currents to confirm devices can meet today’s ever-more-challenging goals for energy efficiency.

And the winners are:

In our previous reader offer, EPC was giving away ten of its EPC9002 development board kits, worth USD 95 each.
Lucky winners include  I. Blythe and C. Hardman from the UK, M. Casartelli and D. Cogliati from Italy, C. Cossio from Spain, W. Milarch from Germany, r. Milewicz from Poland, M. Prascak from Slovakia, A. Raidl from Austria and M. Taslakov from Bulgaria.
All should be receiving their kits soon. Let's wish them some interesting findings with their projects.
