Profinet IO device reduces implementation time and costs to a minimum

MSC now offers the TPS-1 Profinet IO single-chip device interface from Renesas Electronics. The TPS-1 device enables fast and cost-effective building of especially high-performance factory and machine networks. The device, which is equipped with an integrated Ethernet switch, two MACs and two PHYs, meets Profinet version 2.3, conformance class C, as well as Profinet IRT and simplifies the Profinet connection of microprocessors, microcontrollers and FPGAs via an established serial or parallel interface.

Hence, processing of the Profinet protocol, for example, is carried out entirely on the chip. Furthermore, apart from the voltage supply and a serial flash memory, no additional external components are needed for operation. The TPS-1 product is a highly integrated single-chip device, which is specifically tailored to the requirements of compact field devices and drives, features a particularly compact design. Thanks to its 1mm pitch 15x15mm BGA housing, the TPS-1 device fits compact modules, remote I/O devices, motor drives and other industrial peripherals. Samples of the TPS-1 device and the related TPS-1 starter kit will be available in the first quarter of 2012. Mass production is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2012.

The development platform for i.MX 6Quad from element14 (built to the Freescale SABRE Lite design) is an evaluation platform featuring the powerful i.MX 6Q, a multimedia application processor with Quad ARM Cortex-A9 cores at 1.2 GHz from Freescale Semiconductor.

This month, Freescale and element14 are giving away five such platforms, worth £128.06 each, for EETimes Europe's readers to win. The platform helps evaluate the rich set of peripherals and includes a 10/100/Gb Ethernet port, SATA-II, HDMI v1.4, LVDS, parallel RGB interface, touch screen interface, analog headphone/microphone, micro TF and SD card interface, USB, serial port, JTAG, camera interface, and input keys for Android.

And the winners are...

In our previous reader offer, Pico Technology was giving away one of its recently launched PicoScope 3207B, a 2-channel USB 3.0 oscilloscope worth 1451 Euros. Lucky winner Mr L. Sanchez-Gonzalez from Spain should be receiving his PicoScope 3207B soon. Let's wish them some interesting findings with his projects.
