In July 2013 Ricoh became ISO / TS16949:2009 certified; the company regards this as an additional improvement of its quality management system for the design, development and manufacturing important of semiconductor devices for the automotive market. Ricoh’s latest addition to its automotive power management ICs portfolio, the CMOS-based R1517 and R1518, are targeted to be used as a power source for car accessories, general car equipment and car safety critical applications .

R1517 and R1518 are designed to survive in harsh conditions; they operate up to 36V and even tolerate load dump surge peak voltages up to 60V with duration of less than 200ms. The operating temperature range is from -40°C to +125°C.

An important feature for automotive applications is the supply current and should be minimized in order to guarantee a long stand-by time of the battery. This valuable for applications which are active when the vehicle is not in use, such as a keyless entry system and the security systems. They also could help to outbalance the rising current consumption in today’s cars, resulting from the continuously increasing integration level of electronic applications: With their low supply current of only 18µA, the R1517 and R1518 contribute to a lower overall current consumption. Another key feature of the R1517 and R1518 is the high output voltage accuracy of 0.8% and low temperature drift coefficient of only 60ppm/°C, making the product suitable as a high reliable power source.

The R1517 and R1518 are available in a space saving HSOP-6J package and in a high wattage TO-252-5-P2 package.
