WSTS: January chip sales up 72% on a year ago
Semiconductor Industry Association and the "actual" figures from WSTS,
is that the SIA takes the WSTS numbers and creates a three-month
average from a given month and the two preceding months. It argues that
this smoothes out the data which would otherwise display the effect of
in-quarter reporting that tend to treat March, June, September and
December as five-week months.
On the basis of actual sales the Americas region increased
year-on-year by 43.8 percent to $3.49 billion; Europe by 41.7 percent
to $2.92 billion and Japan increased by 35.2 percent to $3.53 billion.
The Asia-Pacific region more than double sales compared with January
2009, rising by 110 percent to $12.44 billion.
