External UFS cards are capable of reading a 5GB full high-definition video file in about 10 seconds, which is more than five times faster than ordinary micro SD cards. In terms of writing speed, the new product supports up to 170-megabytes-per-second, which is twice as fast as ordinary SD cards. This means that it can better store high-capacity visual data collected using three-dimensional virtual reality devices, action cameras, drones and other devices. Earlier this year, Samsung Electronics started mass producing 128GB and 256GB embedded UFS (eUFS) memories.
The company has pushed to develop external UFS cards based on the UFS 2.0 interface for eUFS memory products established by the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council.
