Simulation environment takes LTE-A demo to 1 Gbit/s

Anritsu has announced it has successfully demonstrated peak throughput for an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) device and network simulator using 3x Carrier Aggregation (3CA) and 4 x 4 MIMO with 256QAM modulation. The demo used a Qualcomm Snapdragon X16 LTE modem; and 10 simultaneous 100 Mbit/sec data streams to achieve peak throughput.

Using devices featuring the Qualcomm Snapdragon X16 LTE modem and the Anritsu MD8430A LTE Simulator, Anritsu can show support for stable IP-layer data rates of up to 1 GBit/sec in the downlink.

“Anritsu is pleased to once again work with Qualcomm Technologies in support of our latest advance – breaking the gigabit barrier for wireless communications,” said Paul Innis, Vice President and General Manager of Anritsu Company. “This achievement builds on our previous world’s first announcements with Qualcomm Technologies of Category 6 in January 2014 and Category 9 in November 2014. We look forward to continuing to provide test solutions that enable the development of consumer devices that use this new data rate breakthrough.”

Employing newly introduced capability enables a single MD8430A to simulate three contiguous LTE baseband cells on a single RF carrier. With two MD8430A simulators in a “master/slave” combination Anritsu says it can offer more aggregated carriers with higher-order MIMO than other solutions on the market. Cells can be placed in any licensed or unlicensed band using newly introduced RF capability to cover 350 MHz to 6 GHz.

The MD8430A is a scalable LTE network simulator, with four models ranging from Functional Test Model (FTM) to Enhanced Test Model (ETM), and available LTE FDD and TDD software options for any model. The associated Rapid Test Designer (RTD) graphical test software environment enables quick scripting and debug of tests with full automation and an intuitive user interface as well as dedicated layer 3 and lower-layer libraries for maximum flexibility. Simulation of three simultaneous cells on a single RF is available now with the MD8430A-004, and coverage of 350 MHz to 6 GHz is available now with the MD8430A-006.
