Transponder coil for automotive access is very compact

TDK has introduced a new series of Epcos z-axis transponder coils that target passive entry, passive start (PEPS) car access applications. The company highlights their particularly compact size of just 7.7 x 7.4 x 2.65 mm which translates into very low insertion height.

The B8245L*E402 z-axis transponder series comprises seven products covering an inductance range from 1.0 to 10.0 millihenry (mH). Depending on type, the coils have a sensitivity between 7 mV/µT and 23 mV/µT at a frequency of 125 kHz and a Q factor between 50 and 58.

The injection-molded baseplate and laser-welded connections of the winding ensure very high robustness. The components are also qualified according to AEC-Q200.

The coils can be combined with Epcos’ B82450A*A* and B82450A*E* coil series for the x- and y-axes which also feature a similarly compact size. According to TDK / Epcos, solutions using these three discrete transponder coils offer high design flexibility and can save space on the PCB. Plus, these coils are RoHS compatible.
